Laparoscopic Surgery

Also known as "Key-Hole" Surgery

It is different from conventional open surgery whereby the surgery is done via smaller holes (hence key-hole in name). These small holes can range anywhere from 3mm, 5mm to 10mm; some can be 11mm or 15mm depending on case. Based on case and situation, the hole sizes and number of holes needed for the case will be different.

Laparoscopy is further divided into conventional (multiple holes), single port (single hole), natural opening (normal human organ opening), Advanced or Robotic Arm Assisted (surgeon operates with principle of key hole surgery using advanced robots or mechanics).

All treatments have their associated benefits and disadvantages. Not a single patient is similar to the next or the one before; hence it is important to discuss with your doctor the best management strategy and treatment based on your individual situation and needs.
